We have a grey start
to the day and a cooling
trend in the weather

I was up and out the door before 6 this morning. I thought I'd like a wee jaunt around the Butterfly Garden in McArthur Island Park.
I drove into the park as the 6 AM news began on my radio. I planned to ignore the marmots as best I could even though they kept popping out in surprising places in the park.
I parked by the Butterfly Garden and got out to walk around the flower beds that are coming into their own right now. The Rivers Trail sign marks the garden's location on the map. With the wet and cool spring we have had the flowers have thrived. Not being much of a gardener myself, I am challenged to name the lovely blossoms there.
I took a look behind me to my mountains in the east. I tried to overlook the blue portable latrine in the foreground.
I looked west over the slough to the footbridge. I caught a quick but rather poor shot of a beaver plying the waters. It amused me that he was towing something leafy which stuck up over his head like the sails on a ship.
I was interested to see so many ducks near the footbridge so I walked over the footbridge to have a better look. I was pleased to finally find some ducklings with their mama. With no water in this area for so long, I've missed the ducks and their broods. This morning it looked something like a nursery with mama ducks resting in the middle of the slough with their babies close by. The colourful drakes circled the slough without any parental responsibilities.
I've got some office jobs to perform this morning, then my afternoon should be free. I think a nap will be in order.
