High alert

This morning I watched this little Siskin nervously feeding, keeping an eye out for danger in between beakfuls.
Yesterday we witnessed a goldfinch being carried away by a magpie after it had flown into the window. It may have been killed outright but if it was just stunned as often is the case, it had no chance of survival as the magpie spotted it the second it fell to the ground. Poor little thing.
