Raspberries are here and I am competing with the blackbirds to gather the ripe fruit. The birds have the advantage as they are checking and pecking constantly while I'm only out there now and then. The crop is not as good as usual as I have been neglecting to fertilize the canes. Next year should be better because I have put down chicken manure and mulched with wood chips on top of that. As a result, a complete different sort of fruit has  emerged, a cup fungus of the Peziza genus that loves wood chips. It's harmless but not edible, by humans or blackbirds, unfortunately.

Peziza is a peculiar sort of fungus which can be found growing on the most unlikely surfaces including cellars, concrete floors  - and railway stations. Last year it was spotted on the London Underground at Belsize Park tube station  (well-known to me as it happens) :
