Roadtrippin' Day 2: Colorado to Utah
SNOW. EVERYWHERE. That was our treacherous drive down the Rockies described in two words. Also, zero vision.
Escaping from the blizzard virtually unscathed (except with a few emotional scars), we made our way to Moab, UT, where we planned to find a campground close to Arches National Park. The drive was an incredible transformation from cold mountain winter to hot desert summer.
We found this gem of a campsite on the Colorado River, surrounded by towering orange sandstone against a blazing blue backdrop. Eventually, winds picked up so much that we moved the tent (already assembled) to a more wooded area, but we still basically stayed on the river. Realizing we didn't have stakes, Lara did some quick thinking - and pulled out some metal silverware. We hammered spoons, forks, and knifes into the ground to keep our tent from flying. It was hilarious.
Our campsite was perfect, more than we could've ever asked for. Plus, we had Ben the Hot Geologist right next door - how couldn't we be happy?
Beers, songs, and heart-to-hearts around the campfire closed our first beautiful day in the American Southwest.
