Happy Birthday America
Tonight, we watched the last episode and the "making of" of John Adams, the HBO TV series based on the book by David McCullough. Stunning. The hardships those first Americans had to endure to create, fight for and nurture a fledgling country...to simply survive, is hard to imagine.
At dusk, on the spur of the moment, Mr. F drove us downtown and dropped me off on the bridge to watch the fireworks over the Mississippi River, alongside thousands of people. He didn't get to see the fireworks because of having to circle the streets that offered no parking anywhere. :( Thanks honey...x
It was obvious that the committee for the downtown fireworks scaled down the production hugely to deal with the budgetary restraints everyone is facing but it was still awesome.
So Happy Birthday America...despite your imperfections and arrogance, faults and unpopularity in the world....I am grateful that you are a peaceful country to live in today...at least in our small corner of your vast expanse.
