Tufted Duckling

Today has been trying... I went to both commons in an attempt to find cheerful little scenes, but I'm afraid that one rather cancelled the other one out.
First I visited Wandsworth Common and was delighted to find three broods of tufted ducklings! They're all about the same size: one mother had 13 (!), one had 10, and one had 4. I so enjoyed watching them bustling about and diving under the water, but didn't manage to catch any mid-hop this time (last year's hop). They're very cute so I thought I'd just share this close-up which was more satisfying than the group shots as they were all swimming in the dark part of the pond so most of my shots were at higher ISO with more noise...

I then went to Clapham Common and found a less happy scene: one of the Goosle goslings has fishing line around one of its legs and has swallowed the other end.
Argh, poor patchy gosling.
I phoned one of my rescue contacts who said that she'd try to rally the troops to catch and help it. I'll go back tomorrow morning to see if they were successful. It didn't seem very distressed, but the line was making it trip over a lot, and when it shook its head it also pulled its leg making it fall over.
Fishing line (and litter) is such a problem on these pond and I can't bear that there don't seem to be any repercussions for the fishermen who leave it: they are supposedly (self-)regulated by a team of "water bailiffs" but they seem as apathetic about the problem as many of the other fishers... If they can't collectively leave the pond clean and safe, then they shouldn't be allowed to fish there.
