OK...so where do we go now?

The caterpillars of Solomon's-seal Sawfly, Phymatocera aterrima, have completely stripped the leaves on my Solomon's-seal plants. This shows the last little group on the last bit of leaf. So, where do they go next? Well, as long as they've stuffed themselves enough they will crawl down to the ground and go into the soil, where they will overwinter. Next spring they will pupate and adult sawflies will emerge from the soil to coincide with my poor plants coming into flower again (if they survive this year's onslaught!). They will lay eggs in the stem of the plants and by June caterpillars will have hatched and have started munching away AGAIN! That's nature.
