Summer evening perfection
Today has just been a beautiful day.
It started off with meeting a wonderful new MM volunteer who I’ve known for a little while but has just come on board. A wonderful hour of hearing her amazing story and then hearing about her plans for MM. Very good for the soul. And then I just happened to be cycling into town to pay some work money in when I heard that Ali had got a ballot place for London. 20,000 ballot places from 280,000 entries makes her one lucky girl. I bought her a Snickers (marathon) bar to celebrate.
This evening I had a glorious time in one of my favourite places in the world, Bishop’s Castle, with Holly. A pint in the summer sunshine at the Castle, overlooking the hills before heading down to a poetry reading by Hollie McNish. I’m not really that into poetry so I hadn’t heard of Hollie before but I’ve since realised that having her in BC was quite the scoop. The reading was actually in the little town hall with the most amazing backdrop of the hills. The poetry was brilliant: both hilarious and moving. Then we were invited over to the Poetry Pharmacy for a book signing and drinks in the garden. Because summer nights are seemingly endless, we headed back up to the Castle for one final drink as the sky turned to dusk over the hills and the birds played overhead.
A dreamy evening that I won’t forget in a long time.
