Lilies of the Water

Water lilies add interest, provide shade and protection for aquatic creatures and help to keep the water clean and aerated. But on the other side of that coin, in a hospitible environment water lilies can overgrow and quickly cover the entire surface of a small pond like ours, competing with other plants and upsetting the ecological balance. Also, water lilies need 4-6 hours of sunlight to bloom. All things to consider before including them in a water feature.
