Abutilon X_1
Some blip friends will recall my long running attempts to hybridize a new Abutilon which started last year when I took pollen from one cultivar to fertilize another. I sowed the seeds and eventually had about a dozen young plants that survived the winter. The first one to flower was decidedly underwhelming as it resembled a pale imitation of one of the parents. Now, almost three months later, a second seedling has produced a flower. This one is completely unlike either parent and unlike any Abutilon I've seen before. The slightly recursive petals are pale yellow with equally pale yellow sepals and mid-yellow stamens, all set off against dark green and deeply toothed foliage. I think this one might be a winner.
