Edinburgh and the Acropolis

Edinburgh is commonly known as "Athens of the North". This is a view along Princes St, with its new tramlines, to Calton Hill with the unfinished National Monument.
The National Monument was started in 1822, but funds ran dry and it remains Edinburgh's version of the Acropolis. You can climb the hill, a favourite spot for painters and photographers to create their images of Edinburgh.
To the right of the National Monument is the Nelson Monument.
And to the right of that is the clock tower of the Northbridge Hotel, with its clock set deliberately fast, so that the people would not miss their train from Waverley Station, which is based next to the hotel.
