Broken Ground
The poppies grew in Flanders because of all the churning of the soil by artillery shells, tanks and men, which brought the dormant seeds to the surface and the warmth of the Sun. A quarry will do that too...
My walk around the village this morning took me up to the newly expanded quarry, and the whole of the quarry edge was filled with the blood red of poppies. You can just about see that it hasn't taken them long to get deep into the local limestone.
I only had my iPhone, so later I went up with the Sony, but by then the Sun had travelled and, frankly, the camera phone gave a better result. It's not Silly Saturday, I know, but on the way back we walked past a house with added goat.
Maybe it was a broken gate, too.
