Ritual for Matariki
The day of the first appearance (at dawn) of the Matariki star cluster in the Southern Hemisphere sky over Aotearoa/New Zealand signals the start of the Maori New Year. The Matariki star cluster comprises nine stars; seven of them form the Pleiades constellation in the Northern hemisphere.
Matariki New Year festivals coincide with the autumn harvest. The brighter the Matariki stars the better the next year's crops.
S organised a short ritual for us. Part of that was having these snowdrops which embody progress from midwinter into spring.
