Jacobsburg State Park ...
... Clearwing Hummingbird moth.
Now this is what I was hoping for yesterday! But instead of being in my own backyard we had to travel to Jacobsburg in order to see a hummer.
We had spent the morning at home before heading up to Jacobsburg State park for an afternoon event that we had signed up for. The program was all about butterflies and moths at the park. There was butterfly specialist that talked a little about the butterflies/moths here before we were all given nets for carefully trying to capture some. (They were all released later on.) It was fun watching the young people try to capture some but after a bit we decided to go across the street to the native garden to search some out.
And as soon as we got over there we saw a ruby-throated hummingbird on the bee balm growing there. And not only that but there were also some clearwing hummingbird moths. The hummer is now in Extras.
This isn't the best hummingbird picture I've even taken due to the poor lighting but I'll take it as it's the first semi-decent hummer picture of the year. Please take a look full screen to view this clearwing.
On the advice of Girl With a Camera I've switched the Extra with the main so my write up might not make sense ... but I don't want to rewrite everything!
