Mowzal

A brighter start to the day and, after some muesli we decided to go to Mousehole to have a wander. Stopped on the way in Porthleven for K to pick up the cuckoo clock she’d seen the other day (with birdsong on each hour), and I picked up a coffee at a new little place where we chatted to the owners about Thailand and Vietnam and how to make sticky rice.
We parked outside Mousehole, expecting it to be rammed with cars and people, but in fact the car park wasn’t even full and it didn’t feel too busy. We wandered around the tiny streets and higgledy piggledy cottages with the many flower filled gardens and window boxes. Interested to see There was a road named after Grenfell and a plaque talking about the links between the town and the residents of the Tower who’d been hosted for some holidays after the fire in Mousehole and elsewhere in Cornwall….hadn't heard about that.
We stopped for some lunch at No2 Fore St and shared a very tasty hot seafood platter with some fries and crab mayo…..lovely to be able to try out several different fish and shellfish and just the right amount.
We then decided to stop off at the National Trust’s Trengwainton Gardens. Some lovely ancient looking woodlands with huge twisted tees, walled gardens, lots of hydrangeas and tree ferns and a lovely clear stream running through it. We wandered around, sat awhile on the terraced lawn looking over to the sea and wondered who, if anyone, lived in the beautiful private house at the centre of the gardens, then had a big pot of tea in the tearoom. It was fully cloudy and getting chillier by then so we came home, put some jacket potatoes into the oven and watched a bit of the Euros football match….but we got frustrated by England’s lacklustre performance (we didn’t stay for what turned out to be the better result!) so went back to the Glastonbury footage and wrestled again with the controls for both the TV and the chair recliners. We’ll be glad to get back to our own familiar controls!
