Ich Dien

Ich dien is the motto of The Prince of Wales,and is German for "I Serve". It is 55 years today that the young Charles was made Prince of Wales by his mother Queen Elizabeth, at the investiture at Caernarfon Castle in North Wales. I was 8 at the time and in the first year of junior school. As far as I am aware, all schoolchildren in Wales were given this commemorative coin as a memento of that day. I still have mine after all these years. The extras are the reverse of the coin, plus a photo of a street party we had on the day itself. I am the one in the crown and red robe, dressed as the Prince himself.
