Day 4 Deba to Markina

A decent night’s sleep and I was ready for another long section with significant ascent. It started to rain as I left Deba and didn’t stop until 8 hours later when I arrived at my accommodation near Markina-Xemein.

The main blip is the Ermita de San Miguel de Arrextxinga founded in the 11th century around 3 Megalithic stone. This was my final stop of the day. The descent into Markina was something else, mainly slippery stones and mud. Nearer the town the surface was rubble and so steep that a rope had been installed. I came down backwards with both hands on the rope.

More people about today, I counted 8, spoke to 6.
28k and 1100m ascent.
