York

York is just an hours drive south of us but in the time we have lived in North Yorkshire we haven't visited the city. Today we took a trip down to have a quick look around and to check out where a theatre we are visiting later in the month was. 

We started with coffee and cake outside a riverside pub before strolling up to The Shambles (top images). We then meandered around the area looking down side alleys and around the markets.

Our eldest did her degree in York many years ago so we have done much of it before.

The play we are going to see is 39 Steps, a fantastic interpretation of the original that boasts just 4 actors, 139 characters over 100 hilarious minutes. I've seen it twice before in London and I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.
