where many of the larger boats can be hauled out on a sledge, up a slipway, to have work done on their hulls. You can see a boat out here Around it are some of the historic dockyard buildings that go back more than 180 years. There will be an Open Day in September when you can get behind the scenes but there are all sorts of explanatory boards around which you can read now that explain how the 'Floating' Dock was made from a fast flowing river harbour.
