Site of Lathom Hob Cross.

This could have been ancient boundary marker or where funeral processions Stopped on their way to nearby Burscough Abbey. Or it may have been named after hobs and dobs - male and female fairies - which jumped from one 'hob'stone to another.
Whatever its origin it's good that the place is marked. The plinth is all that remains and it is hidden by grass.
The marker seen here was made from a re-cycled stone gatepost and was erected in 2011, paid for by donations, some of which were anonymous.
