Living my dream

Reflections

It is another cold day. It was -3C when we got up at 6.30am and it lingered below freezing for several hours, despite the rising of the sun in a cloudless sky.

It was so cold when I reached G's garden that I turned round and came home almost immediately. I did a bit of cutting back. But no way was I going to be potting on seedlings into solid potting mix, let alone water them into their new homes through frozen hosepipes. Even the weeds were frozen hard in the soil.

I lit the potbelly stove, and we spent the morning cosy and warm. Our walk was beautiful: sunshine and not a breath of breeze. I was well-wrapped up and Bean bounced about keeping warm. You can see ice on the pond still, even at 3pm.

The UK election results have been entertaining me off and on all day. There are few surprises. And I'm sure my friends and family over there are relieved that common sense has prevailed.

It is a poisoned chalice though. I hope the new government is able, and is allowed, to start to make the changes necessary to put the country's essential services back together again. I really hope people have the patience, and the trust to support the decisions that will need to be made...
