SARONY

It turns out that Scarbados was at the forefront of early photography. Oliver Sarony 1820-1879 was described as a photographer, innovator, hero, showman and shark !
He developed . . . if you pardon the pun . . . a huge business creating early portraitures in his huge studios. Originally from Quebec, he arrived in Scarborough in 1857 and soon made his mark. The site of his studios is now a car park (nothing changes) but nearby properties that he used as studios still bear plaster figures in his honour. Three can be seen here, with Sarony being in the middle.
Hope you have a grand weekend ahead . . . tis summer after all !
