The beauty things

A long day starting to sort out my late parents' belongings. I've been putting things into three piles (keep, recycle, charity shop). The first of these piles is much too big and will have to be thinned tomorrow.

Looking at the 'keep' pile, I am reminded of the 'beauty things' (Edmonds and Garner). The idea that objects which pass from one generation to another are not owned by us, instead, the objects collect owners. We are part of their story and belong to them as they pass through time taking a memory of us with them. So it is with this simple hand painted pot that passed through my grandmother's hands, my mother's hands and now mine. When I look at the pot I see those hands.
