Scolia hirta
A sunny but not too hot day. Went for a beastie safari in the Gleisdreieckpark. Saw lots of butterflies, cabbage whites, red admirals, holly blues, peacocks, commas (in the extra) and a queen of spain fritillary. The highlight for me was this large wasp. It is native to Southern Europe but is spreading northwards due to climate change. It parasitises scarab larvae. It is rare and on the red list in Germany. More details about the wasp on the Nabu Berlin website. Met Rowan in the park for a beer and more sunshine.
More pictures of mostly butterflies on flickr.
