Summer Fruit

Thanks very much for the lovely comments, stars, and hearts for my Orange Hawkweed blip!

Beautiful as the flowers are, we need to get rid of these plants. I emailed our county's Noxious Weed Control Board this afternoon, and hope they'll be able to send out someone to dig up all of the Orange Hawkweed in the next week or two. In addition to the stems and aboveground flowers (4-12 per flowering plant), they also have underground stems (rhizomes) that produce new plants.

The information on the county website says "Removed plant and root pieces should be burned or disposed of somewhere they can't sprout." We're too old to do either...

Moving on to another area of the backyard, our dwarf apple trees are doing well, as today's blip shows, and the blueberry bushes are loaded with unripe berries. Given the weather forecast for high temperatures and sunshine, ripening is bound to get started! We'll be competing with all the local birds for those juicy berries!
