Well, not me, but of course that was the original name of what is now the Balmoral. Once upon a time, a very long time ago, I worked in the retaurant there - the Cleikum if I remember correctly. I've been reminded of this in the last few days because at that time it was a railway hotel (remember them?) so everyone had to be a member of the National Union of Railworkers - even the waitresses. Since I came from a long line of trade union activists & was politically active myself I was really keen to join. A bit less keen on the political levy of course so I asked for the opt out form. Cue much confusion from the branch official who had never heard of the levy much less an opt out form - but wasn't too chuffed about it & immediately wanted an opt out form of his own.

Oddly, as long as I worked there, no-one ever got back to me with a membership form. Can't think why.
