Summer for an afternoon

I felt like shouting to everyone: quick! get out here! It's summer ... as the sky cleared of almost every cloud and the sun grew hot even though there was a wind and I took off my jacket and walked in a T shirt ...It'll be gone by tomorrow.

Not that I was pottering in sunshine all day. I had another earlyish start - not quite school morning early, but only half an hour later, when I was standing in the garden waiting for my lift to Colintraive and a joint meeting of the Vestry committees of our church in Dunoon and its sister church in Rothesay, on Bute. The meeting was held in the village hall in Colintraive, so the Bute folk came across on their ferry and we drove round - it takes about 40 minutes on a largely single-track road, so especially in summer you keep meeting cars sort of head on ...

I was glad I wasn't driving, as I was knackered after yesterday - I'd have been a traffic hazard. The meeting was quite driven - we have to discuss our common approach to attracting a new priest to the two charges. A real need to be singing from the same hymn sheet in this instance!

I fell helplessly asleep after lunch, but roused myself to go and sit in the garden because the sun had come out and there was no sign of the slight showers that had peppered the morning. I should have been packing for a few days away, but instead I did Italian and dozed - and then I got fed up with sitting, and stiff and sore after yesterday (the front choir stalls in the cathedral, though attractive to look at, were built for small boys ...) So we did what we always do, and walked round the shore road at Toward and out along the Ardyne, which is where I took the above photo for what much be the hundredth time  - for which no apologies; it was so sparkling and lovely that it called out to me. Funny to think that our sister church is right in the centre of that photo - we really ought to run a boat across from where I was standing.

That was me. I've done some rather random packing, and there are piles of things all over the place. Tomorrow is another day...and it'll rain again. But for now the sky is clear, is still llght behind St Johns, is perfectly still. I'll add an extra ...

I forgot to add that this was our 54th wedding anniversary - we’ll be celebrating slightly today (Tuesday)!
