Stony Faced

We only got out today for a short drive and a quick pint back at The George in Trrottiscliffe but on the way back we decided to continue our Kent churchyards tour and settled on St Margaret's at Addington - once we actually managed to find it that is, as it was quite badly signposted and could not been seen from the road.
It was another gloriously serene churchyard which opened up extensively once you were through the entrance gate with unexpectedly open views across the nearby countryside.
I couldn't quite capture anything I was happy with until I saw this face staring back at me from one of the church's outside walls. I feel I've done this little sculpture a bit of a disservice by calling it stony-faced (although literally it is a face made of stone) - which usually infers not showing any emotion, lacking in humour or being serious, earnest, sober, sombre or solemn - but I actually find the expression enigmatic. I tried to find out more about the church and the sculpture when I got back but sadly I was unable to locate any further information as to whom this is a depiction of and what their history is, so this little face will have to remain an enigma wrapped up in a mystery for now!
