Reason to Celebrate!

After many months of searching for the right full-time position, today I was offered a wonderful, exciting job opportunity!

The story....
On Monday I had an interview with a large multinational firm, based in the US, for a Communications Specialist position. The job combines a bit of marketing, social media, PR, and IT... it is challenging and diverse and exactly what I want!

Sadly, after the interview, (conducted entirely in German, although the job posting was in English)I wasn't feeling very confident. I was nervous and flustered and consequently my answers to some of the technical questions were too broad and disorganized; I failed to take advantage of opportunities to express concrete ideas and specific, job-relevant experience. I walked away feeling like I could have done much better and had little chance of being hired into a young, dynamic team - especially since they interviewed 5 candidates!

Today I had another job interview scheduled, with a different company, for a sales position I really don't want. As I was walking out the door, the phone rang, and the firm I interviewed with on Monday offered me a very attractive contract! I was/am ecstatic!! I went ahead to the back-up interview just to see what they offered, but gladly walked out telling them the job was not a good fit for me.

My new role will require me to speak German in the local office on a daily basis, but communicate regularly in English with an international team. I'll be responsible for more than 40 global websites, numerous micro change management sites, and will be centrally involved in a major organizational transformation and a software migration. The commute is 15 minutes, the hours flexible, the compensation fair, and the challenge stimulating.

Thus, tonight we celebrated. It was English Quiz Night at our local watering hole, and in honor of American Independence Day, the questions were Yankee-themed. I teamed up with my friend, fellow Ami, and the bar owner and we cleaned up the trivia game :) That's two years in a row that we rocked the July quiz!

I can't tell you all how great it feels to have finally landed an exciting job. I'll be starting in August as soon as I return from vacation in the US. The best news for my German friends, is that August is guaranteed to be sunny and hot, since I will be stuck in an office rather than languishing on the beach. That's OK - you all have a great summer. I'm thrilled to be back at work!
