Feeling the Heat

We are in the middle of a dreadful heatwave with no relief in sight.  I had heard nothing about our local sunflower fields so I went out this morning early to check them out, but apparently it wasn't early enough because after about an hour, I couldn't tolerate the heat and humidity any more and had to throw in the towel. This little male Goldfinch was feeling the heat as well.  

The fields are in bloom but in early stages.  The electric fences are still in place and the plants aren't very tall yet, although some of that may be due to the complete lack of rain. Every year is different...part of what makes it challenging and fun.
