Cambridgeshire Mini Roadtrip
Houghton - a cottage straight out of a fairytale!
First stop this morning was the farm where M keeps his beehives to look at the amazing medieval barn, then on to Houghton, a village full of beautiful thatched cottages. From here we took the wooded footpath along the River Great Ouse to the ancient market town of St Ives. A stroll around the town, a quick visit to the museum and an early lunch stop which was very well timed, just as the rain arrived. By the time we’d finished, the sun had come back out and we continued our wandering along the quay to the chapel on the bridge, one of only four in the country. (Extras 1-4)
From the bridge we headed back to Houghton, meeting a Muntjac deer on the footpath, then continued on down to Houghton Watermill for an ice cream and a rest in the sun, and where it was preening time for the swans. (Extras 5-6) Then back to base. We’re probably the only people in the country who aren’t watching the footie this evening, preferring to watch a film. I’m sure I’ll hear all about the result tomorrow though!
Thank you so much for all your kind stars and hearts for yesterday’s Norfolk Mini Roadtrip blips.
