St James tarn

Heading to Christchurch after work I had planned a city lights image for today's blip, but an hour into the journey it struck me that I'd left my tripod behind.

Fortunately there was just enough light to allow a quick stop at St James Tarn (a small mountain lake). The tarn is frozen solid and surrounded by snow, although there's been no new snowfall for at least a week.

The temperature at home today never rose above 3 dec C. By the time I got to the Lewis Pass area it was down to -1 (at 5pm). It warmed a little as I headed east - and was 4 deg C by the time I arrived here in Christchurch.
