A day in the life

Repairs

No wind today, and the warmth is back. It's been overclouded and very moist in the air, it seemed a good day to get going with the reapairs of my balcony, made of limestone from the island.
But first some playing, to keep the repertoar alive and then, after a bit of hassle, I managed to borrow a trailer to transport some gravel for the repairs.

When the balcony was built in 2009, they first made a frame of limestone to outline the size of the balcon,. then filled the frame with rocks, gravel and debris from when they built the house and then finally put a layer of flat limestone on top to give it a good finish. Through the years the frame has settled and the some of the top stones has moved a bit, causing some rocks to wiggle. Some has been exchanged and some are broken. My aim is to restore the surface by putting gravel under the wiggly stones and put new ones in where the damaged ones are.

It's going to be difficult to make an even surface, I noticed that after the first half an hour. It took me two hours to get a reasonable result in one of the corners, now in blazing sunlight and I soon found out I had underestimated the amount of gravel I'll need for the job. I've never done this kind of job before so I might be in for a long project.
To be continued.
