It's not a mushroom.
Looks like a duck (actually deer poop), quacks like a duck, but it isn't a duck. While wandering back to my car from another plant adventure I saw a beautiful orange-pink patch of tiny "mushrooms" - they're actually slime molds (I didn't understand the difference as an undergrad, and still don't).
What's cool, other than the vibrant colour, is that the brown fruiting bodies are old pink fruiting bodies. There also seems to be some shiny beetles beetling around the fruiting bodies. I could only confirm the "not mushroom" from a mushroom friend, no confirmation of shiny helmet beetles harvesting them for their children.
