Eastbourne
A train ride to Eastbourne to meet a dear friend for lunch and then on to The Towner Gallery for a talk by Andrew Graham-Dixon on the life and work of Caravaggio. He was witty, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and spoke for over an hour using just a few slides as prompts for his super-entertaining talk. . I particularly liked the story of artists going to the bakery in the afternoon to pick up charcoal sticks to use in their studios. He really gave a flavour of life in Italy in the 16th century and, of course, of Caravaggio who was a troubled man for sure.
