Carry That Weight
The last full run through of our set today before we perform it in public next weekend. So it was the last chance to check everything is dialled in properly and working as it should. On the basis we can now hear ourselves, each other AND the backing tracks in our IEMs I think we can put a tick in that particular box.
Stu has bought a new (to him) guitar which sounded superb. It’s a Gibson Les Paul and it has been beautifully set up. Usually, a Les Paul is a pretty hefty lump of guitar, but this one is actually quite light and I’m reliably informed that it should not put ageing shoulders under strain - at least for the thirty minutes our set will last!
As far as my bass is concerned, it’s not the weight on my shoulder I’m worried about, it’s the weight when it’s hanging on the wall. I noticed when I took it down this morning that the hanger was starting to come adrift from the wall. I tried tightening the screws, but to no effect. So, this afternoon, I removed the old plugs and screws and replaced them with some much chunkier and longer ones. A bit of collateral damage to the wall, but it’s all hidden behind the actual hanger when it’s tightened up. And, boy, is it tight now. Not only does the bass now hang there without a millimetre of movement, but I reckon I could probably hang the amp up there as well without causing a problem.
Maybe won’t be putting that theory to the test though!
