What the Resident Gardener brought in to show me

Just look at this stick insect. I estimate it is about 25cm long. Only one other time have we seen such a creature in our garden, the first being even longer. While I was getting M to pose the insect was going a bit berserk, even going to crawl on his face. Not fun.

I look at this insect and I think of the wonders of evolution. Natural selection. Look like a stick and hide amongst the sticks and increase your chances of survival. Yet the insect has the same compound eyes and feelers as other insects. It just looks just like a stick.
