Meadowsweet. Filipendula ulmaria

Its everywhere at the moment and looks really good. It likes damp meadows and ditches. Some botanists believe it gets its name from being used to flavour Mead.

On our footpath which was between two wire fences we met cows coming towards us. We unhooked an electric fence and took shelter in the field behind it. There were over 100 of them and they took about 15 minutes topass by. They had come quite a long way from the milking sheds and they clearly new which field to end up in as there was nobody with them.
Made me wonder whether at the end of the afternoon they will all set off back without any human intervention.

The milk from this herd of Friesians all goesfor making cheese.
