Last days

Sadly, our time in Prague is coming to a close. The last two days have been nothing short of incredible. Yesterday, we explored Lesser Town where Prague Castle, St. George's Basilica, St. Nicholas Church, and Petrin Tower are located. We walked over to Petrin Hill- a huge park with beautiful views of the city. We rode the funicular, a tram that takes you up the hill....the stairs looked too daunting!! Halfway up the hill we got off and had lunch outside at a cute little cafe overlooking the city.
We then made our way through the park to Prague Castle- which literally looks like something out of a fairy tail. The grounds are plush, the views are impressive, and the buildings are nothing short of spectacular. We entered the castle through the President's backyard...no seriously, we were a few feet away from his house. Definitely not the same security as the White House! Our first stop on the grounds was St. George's Basilica. As most of the city, words and pictures will not do it justice. Outside, the ornate architecture is like nothing I have seen- even the doors are impressive! Inside, the arichitecture continues to impress. The stained glass is the first thing that catches your eye. Once you peel your eyes off of the colorful detailed glass, you begin to notice the ancient statues, high decorated ceilings, and wooden spiral staircases wrapping around pillars. St. George's Basilica was by far my favorite of the day, maybe the entire trip.
After visiting the grounds we walked along Masarykovo nabrezi, a street along the river that is lined with impressive buildings. It blows my mind that even apartment buildings look the way they do here- ornate towers and chimneys, adorable balconies, and statues everywhere!
After a day of magnificent architecture and plush parks, we ended with a jazz concert in an underground bar in Lesser Town.
Today, was about relaxing and soaking up our last day in a wonderful city. We began by taking the paddle boats on the river- no repeats of our Brazil trip- no one fell off the boat..phew! :) After, we walked through the streets, popping into stores. We ended our relaxing day with yummy pastries at a pastry shop that has been around since 1911- blows my mind!
Next stop Cesky Krumlov!!
