We’re not going back
What a day!
I was late last night, so I heard about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump before I went to bed. I can only hope that violence will not ensue. Today’s radio interviews included the religious right who believe in Deus ex machina and say that God protected the ex-President (but sadly not the others who were shots). I won’t go on.
Of course it took me back to the assassination of JFK when I was 11 and on a school stage behind Sooty and Sweep with Harry Corbett. The atmosphere in the packed hall had been happy and magical, but I can remember vividly the change when the news was announced.
This morning I processed images from last night’s gig.
Then I drove to Newcastle to a matinee performance at The Live Theatre. The musical play, “We’re not going back” was about three women, sisters, during the miners’ strike of 1984. It’s a brilliant production by Red Ladder Theatre Company and it’s on tour, so see it if you can.
It reminded me strongly of “Close the Coalhouse Door”, a musical production from 1968 that left a strong imprint on my emotional memory. With music by Alex Glasgow and a play by Alan Plater, using stories from Sid Chaplin, it was bound to be wonderful.
My blip is one of the actors after the play.
On to Julie’s house in time to see the last few games of the Wimbledon Men’s Final.
What a day!
(I’ll watch the highlights of the football later….
