Hot hot hot!
Today has been another scorcher. After a long, cold, wet winter and spring everyone and everything is soaking up the sun greedily.
That includes the plants in my greenhouse. I've photographed my favourite variety of chilli, Apache. They are about 6 weeks behind in growth because of the weather but soon the plants will be covered in tiny chillies that are hotter than Hades.
A few of summers back I gave some to my friend, Katrina, warning her only to use one in the dish she was cooking for her family. She ignored me. After all, how could such a tiny chilli be enough. She used 4 and ruined the meal. We still laugh about that and I still give her a chilli plant every summer.
Once I had so many I let them dry and decided to make them into chilli powder in the Magimix. What on earth made me think that was a good idea! Within seconds, all our eyes were streaming and we were coughing and choking. Even with doors and windows open the chilli made life uncomfortable for a good few hours.
Unfortunately I'm not safe to cook any more but I still love growing my chillies. All these plants will find their way to good, spicy food loving homes. With a warning label!
