Son Kul Lake
During the night our hosts visit the yurt around 2am to top up the fire so we wake to it still warm. After breakfast we take to the hills for a walk. As we set off it is still quite cold but the sun soon breaks through and for most of our walk we are blessed with lovely views of the lake and surrounding mountains. There are many petroglyphs to be found here dating from 8th century BC. Just as we are ready to head back we see the storm clouds gather and hear the distant thunder. It's difficult to judge distance here as the lake and campsite are almost always in view and don't seem too far away. Unfortunately, nearing the end of our walk back the storm caught up with us and we were treated to a hail shower. Four seasons in one day - it felt just like being at home.
