WHEAT REMAINS

It's Mono Monday and the theme is "curves."  I'm betting you can see them.

Mid-July is winter wheat harvesting time.  This is what remains after the wheat is harvested.  It's the left over stalks of the wheat plants.  It's called straw.  Here the local farmer has windrowed it and will bale the straw to be used as bedding for his cattle.

An interesting aside:  I've always been fascinated by city folk who call anything that's baled...hay.  HAY is either alfalfa or marsh grass that's been baled.  STRAW is neither.  HAY is food for ruminant critters...cattle, bison, etc.  STRAW is not!  HAY is expensive by the bale.....STRAW is a lot cheaper.  Thus endeth the country boy epistle.
