Barrage

We had a lovely lunch out today with our daughter and granddaughter, then afterwards we all went for a walk over the barrage, which connects Cardiff Bay to Penarth. Opened in 1999 it has three bascule bridges which open to let boats in and out of the bay. They each weigh 88 tons and are counterweighted to reduce the amount of energy used to open them. It is a wonderful piece of engineering. The extra is of one of the bridges coming back down after letting a yacht back into the bay.
