The old ways
A few years ago I rescued a lot of old veterinary books from the surgery when they were about to go in a skip and I tucked them away in a spare bedroom cupboard. Now Mrs AMK is on the warpath because with her keen sense of smell she has detected the smell of damp books and I have had an ultimatum to get rid of them before the Texan and Stratford families arrive in a few weeks.
Progress this evening has been slow as I have been fascinated thumbing through them and this picture is just one example. I just wonder what the modern day equine vets would think of this method - there were 3 pages of detailed instructions on how to do it. I liked the use of physics !
The book on Practical Animal Husbandry was bought in 1946 by the founder of the practice who started it 20 years previously. He signed and dated all the books that he bought and had not long retired when I started in 1972 although he actually did my career interview at school when I was thinking about applying to the Dick Vet.
