Bookseller of Inverness
We woke to sunshine (hurray!) for a change and since it looked as if it would be sunny intervals everywhere today we decided to set off to Loch Ness for a walk and an explore. We drove through a very sunny Inverness on the way but then the cloud covered again....drat!
After a bit of a wrong turn we got to Foyers Fall car park and headed down into the gorge to see the falls. Some stanzas from Rabbie Burns' poem on visiting the spot were carved into stones along the way down
"As high in air
the busting torrents flow
As deep recoiling surges
foam below"
You'll see in the extra it looked a little different today! Considering how much rain we've had recently it was surprising to see just that little dribble! The gorge was dramatic though and the trees very peaceful surrounding it. We didn't see any red squirrels on the trail named after them, but spent some time admiring the scenery and listening to two very raucous ravens in the trees at one point.
We had a quick lunch in the cafe there - scotch broth for me and a toastie for S before heading back to Inverness for a wander. We walked across the bridge from a car park to see Leakey's secondhand bookshop and it was quite the spectacle and fun to browse though I didn't get anything. It was good to visit since we're reading the Bookseller of Inverness by S G Maclean this month and I quite enjoyed it when I listened to it on my last trip down south.
We dithered around a bit looking for tea and cake and found a very tasty bakewell tart in the Victorian market after a couple of false starts, then walked back to the car and drove home. The clouds were definitely building by then....we're expecting rain tomorrow despite hearing lots of news about hot weather warnings down south for the next couple of days.
Had a brief power nap then did some holiday planning with Trailfinders before supper and some comfort TV - Repair Shop and Sewing Bee.
