sampler
Some years ago, I was given this sampler, another larger one by the same girl, and a framed school certificate awarded to Annie McCubbin in 1891.
Recently, I was looking at all these items and thinking that someone, somewhere, would appreciate them more than I do. A bit of research showed that there is a website run by the McCubbin One Name Society so I sent them photos and for the past few days, I have been in correspondence with some McCubbins.
A couple who live in Dumfries and Galloway are related to Annie McCubbin and would love to have the items. I'm arranging a time when they can come and pick them up. It's especially poignant because Annie died quite young (aged 32, in 1914).
It has been a lovely warm and sunny day today. After Aqua class and a sauna, I came home to mow the grass. All was going well until I passed the oil tank and saw that oil was leaking onto the grass around it. I stopped mowing, made a couple of phone calls and a man said he would come round straight away! What a nice man he was, too. We have plugged the crack in the tank, as he advised, with hard soap, and look forward to receiving his estimate for a new tank...
