Through the arrow slit.
A detail of Knockhall Castle, our local ruined fortification. This is the view through a slit in the castle wall. The slit would be used for the shooting of arrows, or firing of muskets at any attacking forces. The round opening showing through the darkness, in the opposite wall of the castle, was for the firing of a cannon. Times were clearly as troublesome in the past as they are in the present.
The castle was the home of the Laird of Udny until it burned down in 1734.
