Survivor

The mowing regime for the wildflower meadow in the park appears to have lapsed (staff cut backs) - there was no cut between the end of last summer and the start of this spring. This means that the grasses are taking over and strangling some of the other flora. This is still a much wilder patch than the mown lawns that characterise the rest of the park, and is virtually the only spot where I will find any butterflies, but I wonder how long it will be before someone decides this is just an untidy, overgrown space.

One survivor is this Common-spotted Orchid, which has grown tall through the grass. 

There were a few Ringlet, Meadow Brown, Small White and Green-veined White butterflies about, which is better than nothing.
