Baby newt?

They are huge whatever they are. More than 5cm long. I scared off a few of them but this one was too lazy, basking in the shallows of my parents' pond.

I drove all the way to the west coast to pick H up, had an excellent lunch, and then we drove back. Lots of packing to do.
